Ohio Field Hockey, and all of Ohio Women’s Athletics, would not be where it is today without trailblazing former coaches Dr. Catherine Brown and Kim Brown. Both women dedicated themselves to advancing opportunities for women athletes and coaches at Ohio University. Their relentless advocacy and leadership laid the foundation for the programs seen today.
During her time as Ohio Field Hockey head coach from 1968 to 1971, while also founding the women’s lacrosse and track and field programs and serving as the Women’s Coordinator of Athletics, Dr. Catherine Brown championed equality in athletics during a time when women’s sports often went under recognized. Later, while coaching Ohio Field Hockey from 1978 to 1988, Kim Brown built upon that legacy, continuing to fight for improved benefits and experiences for women athletes and coaches at Ohio.
Today, as Ohio Field Hockey honors their past, they are inspired by the sacrifices and determination of those who came before them. Their legacy motivates them and fuels their ambition to build an even brighter future for Ohio Field Hockey. As part of ongoing improvements to Pruitt Field, they are proud to announce plans to name the new scoreboard in recognition of Dr. Catherine Brown and Kim Brown. This tribute will serve as a permanent reminder of their contributions and a source of inspiration for generations to come. Join us in making this score board dedication a reality by supporting this campaign!
